欧洲空间局所属 “重力场和稳态海洋环流探测”卫星已经完成使命 新浪科技讯 北京时间11月10日消息，据国外媒体报道，欧洲空间局所属 “重力场和稳态海洋环流探测”卫星已经完成使命。与很多卫星在寿终正寝之后便被抛弃在地球轨道上不同，欧洲空间局决定将其引导进入地球大气层焚毁。这颗卫星重约1吨，专家估计一旦进入地球大气层，这颗卫星将无法完全被烧毁，某些部分将坠落地面。
估算显示这颗卫星在再入大气层时将会碎裂成25~45块碎片，时间是在11月10日或11日。这颗卫星呈长柱状，长度为16英尺，它的设计非常特别，整颗卫星没有一处可移动组件。这颗卫星的此次坠落也并非事故，而是有意为之，它将在受控姿态下进入地球大气层。
欧空局地球观测项目主管瓦尔克·勒博格表示：“我们为科学家们提供了迄今最精确的重力场数据。仅仅这一项成就便足以证明GOCE物有所值，这些数据将会产生新的科学成果。”
欧空局的科学家们目前仍在努力确认卫星坠落之后将会撞击地面的准确位置范围，他们希望能有4~5个小时的时间窗口来用于遥控此次受控坠落过程。坠落前，这颗卫星的运行速度大约将是每80分钟围绕地球飞行一周。
今年10月21日，GOCE卫星的燃料耗尽，自那之后它的轨道便开始无法维持，逐渐降低高度。整颗卫星在地球最高层大气上空像飞机那样飞行，依靠稀薄的地球大气气体维持自身的动力学稳定性。一开始的时候，GOCE的轨道高度大约是每天下降大约1英里，但现在这一下降速度已经达到了每天数英里。
研究人员估算认为有2/3的可能性这颗卫星的所有部件都将会坠落到大海之中。但即便最终真的有部分组件坠落在陆地上，那么有可能的坠落地区范围将包括加拿大，西伯利亚，撒哈拉，南极或是其它相对人烟稀少或无人居住的广袤地区。科学家们表示，大约仅有7%的可能性会有卫星碎片坠落到靠近有人居住地区的附近。
